Latest News on Canada Visit Visa

Canada Announces New Visit Visa Application Program

The Canadian government has launched a new initiative to speed up the visit visa application process for citizens from India and Brazil, in order to try and encourage tourists to visit from these two countries.

As part of this pilot program, applicants will no longer have to visit immigration centers but can apply online, reducing the turnaround time to complete the visa application process.

This new program is intended to cut some of the red tape which normally holds up visa applications, and for which the Canadian government has been criticised in the past.

Previously, applicants would have had to provide proof of economic solvency; however this step has been bypassed in order to speed up the process.

The new scheme only applies to citizens of India and Brazil who have visited either the US or Canada at least once in the previous ten years, and who have no criminal convictions.

With an average turnaround time of five days, it is hoped that this new scheme will encourage both tourism and trade, by making it much easier for people to apply. It is also hoped that businessmen will be encouraged to apply for multiple-entry visas in order to attend business and trade meetings, etc.

If the scheme is successful, it may be made available to nationals of other countries as well.

Federal Skilled Worker Program Cap/Quota Counter Released

As the federal skilled worker program applicants continue to prepare their applications for submission, one question continues to make most people anxious; “Will I have enough time to meet the quota?”

    Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has released a page where the counter is updated about once a week to show how many complete applications under the 50 eligible occupations have been received.

As of today, June 9, 2014, 157 applications out of 25,000 that they will accept have been received. The occupations with the highest accepted applicants are Financial and Investment Analysis (43), Computer Programmers (39) and Software Engineers (20).

Last year, the occupation to first reach the cap limit of 300 was Computer Programmer and that was reached just over 4 months after the occupations were released.

  “If last year is any indication, those who are looking to apply, even in the popular occupations like computer programmers,  should still have a few months left.”

 Applicants are encouraged to focus on getting their IELTS exam and their Educational Credential Assessment as they take time to be prepared.

Canadian Immigration Opportunities for IT Workers in 2014

Lot of Opportunities for IT Workers in Canada

Canada’s Information Technology (IT) sector is currently growing. Faced with the need for more IT workers, the Canadian government has taken steps to attract leading IT companies and industry professionals from around the world. Currently, IT professionals in a wide range of fields may be eligible to immigrate to Canada, or to come to the country as temporary workers.
Many leading figures in Canada’s IT sector have observed Canada’s growth and potential in this field. Karna Gupta, President and CEO of the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) recently commented that, “It is clear that Canada is extremely well-positioned to be a world-leader in the digital economy.”

The IT Industry in Canada
In a recent article by The Globe and Mail, it was reported that the Toronto-Waterloo corridor currently employs 280,000 workers. Silicon Valley, the corridor between San Jose and San Francisco famed for its booming IT community, currently employs 380,000 workers. As a result, Ontario was nicknamed the “Silicon Valley of the North.”

With such a large workforce, it is clear that Canada has already established itself as an information technology hub on an international scale. The move for international recognition has been supported by the Government of Canada. In 2013, the Federal Government of Canada reaffirmed a $50 million job creation investment, with millions invested in Canadian information technology companies. This move will help to create jobs, and secure Canada’s place as a leader in information technology.

Need for Foreign Workers

Inline image 5

With a projected 106,000 unfilled positions in the next 4 years, the IT sector’s need for foreign workers is increasing rapidly.

Industry Canada recently conducted a study during which they interviewed representatives from Canadian IT companies. The results of the study revealed that every interviewed firm was actively hiring new employees. Of those interviewed, three quarters believed that there was a significant lack of local Canadian talent, and two thirds used foreign recruitment to hire new employees.

Permanent Residency
There is a range of programs available for IT professionals who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently. The FSW program alone includes 5 major IT fields. They are:

*       information systems analysts and consultants;
*       computer network technicians;
*       database analysts and data administrators;
*       software engineers and designers; and
*       Computer programmers and interactive media developers.
Individuals with IT experience, but who possess a job title different from the five listed above, may still be eligible if they can demonstrate that they perform a substantial number of the job duties listed in the occupation’s description. Additionally, there are a number of IT-related fields on the list of eligible occupations.

To find out if you are eligible to apply for Federal Skilled Worker Program, please contact Global Tree....

Multiple Applications in Canada

]
Multiple Applications Increase Chances of

 Immigration Acceptance

The recent reopening of the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program has generated significant attention from prospective immigrants around the world. With 50 OCCUPATIONS ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM, and intake caps that are more generous than in years past, many applicants who were not able to apply under previous FSW cycles may now find themselves eligible this year.

One way for an applicant to increase his or her chances of being accepted for review by the FSW program is to submit multiple applications. Not all applicants are eligible to submit multiple applications, as each new submission must be under a separate occupation. However, for those who are able to do so, submitting multiple applications may increase their likelihood of having an application accepted before program caps are filled.

Eligible Occupations for the FSW Program

A total number of 25,000 applications will be accepted under the current FSW stream. Applicants must have skills and experience in one of 50 eligible occupations in order to apply. A maximum of 1,000 applications will be accepted for any one occupation, so as to ensure that a diverse array of submissions is received.
For the purposes of Canadian immigration, all occupations are given unique National Occupation Codes (NOCs). Each NOC encapsulates a specific occupation group, such as ‘civil engineers’. Detailed descriptions of the occupation as well as standard job duties and education or experience requirements are also provided by the government.

The current eligible occupations cover a variety of professional fields, including information technology, health care, engineering and financial services.

Submitting an Application under Multiple NOCs
The Government of Canada allows applicants to submit multiple permanent residency applications at the same time. However, separate government processing fees must be paid for each application.
The FSW program requires applicants to have worked in an eligible occupation for at least one continuous year within the last ten years. With this in mind, there are several scenarios where an individual could be in a position to submit more than one application to the FSW program. A few examples are:
An applicant worked in one eligible NOC and then, after changing career paths, worked in a completely different NOC. Assuming other eligibility requirements are met, he or she may be able to submit applications under both separate NOCs.
An applicant worked in one eligible NOC (such as financial auditors and accountants) and was then promoted to a similar eligible NOC (such as financial managers or senior managers in financial services). Any and all of these NOCs could be eligible for the FSW program.
An applicant worked in a position where his or her job duties overlap with another NOC. For instance, a computer programmer may also perform duties that are attributed to a software developer. If a substantial amount of duties, including all of the essential duties, can be met for both NOCs, it may be possible to apply under both.
Both the applicant and his or her spouse/common law partner are eligible to apply under one or more NOCs

Advice for Applicants

The time it takes for intake caps to fill will vary greatly depending on the popularity of a given occupation. In the past, some occupations have met their caps in a matter of days or weeks, while others fill up more slowly. At this time, the Government of Canada has not yet released information on the number of applications it has received since May 1, 2014.
individuals who believe they are eligible under multiple NOCs may increase their chances of acceptance by submitting multiple applications. This is especially the case for people who plan to submit applications for popular fields such as nursing and information technology. Since no information on application intake has yet been provided by the government, there is no way of knowing how close these popular occupations are to filling the 1,000 application cap.

“Submitting under multiple occupations, if possible, helps an applicant hedge their bets and have the best chance of being accepted for review. It is well worth the extra effort and expense in order to rest assured that he or she did everything possible to gain Canadian Permanent Residency.”
As for the additional government processing fees, any applications returned due to the cap being filled will have their government processing fees returned as well. Because of this, there is a high likelihood that applicants who submit multiple applications will get some of their money back.
Investing in Canadian Permanent Residency has the potential to change not only their lives, but the lives of their family and loved ones for generations to come. They owe it to themselves to have the absolute best shot at immigrating to Canada, and for some this includes submitting multiple applications.”
